Hello again,

I've followed the suggestions of several of you and have made some
progress on getting MOL to work on my powerbook. However, I still have a
long way to go. I first rsynced the current 2.2-stable kernel source
and attempted to compile it. Unfortunately, some of the headers were
mssing so I found a complete 2.2.14 source tree which allowed me to
compile. Now that I have the standard C headers, I can go to the more
recent kernel, but for now I'm using 2.2.14. Once I did this, I applied
the Kernel_Patch which came with my mol-0.9.50 installation. I found that
the patch labelled as 2.2.10 failed one of the patch attempts while the
one labelled 2.2.15 worked. I compiled the kernel from this patched
2.2.14 and when it was done I placed the kernel in my MacOS area and
selected it in BootX, and put the System.map file into my /boot partition.

I still have the problem that I am using an image of my 3400's
on-board ROM (I have OS 8.0 on my Mac) because I don't have access to any
other old world ROM'S to try and buying a new World OS isn't an option at
the moment. (Any help here appreciated). I realize I don't need an image
in this situation since MOL could just access the hardware ROM, but I
couldn't figure out how to set this up. In any case, I am using the 8500
OF tree file.

Now, when I run startmol, things begin okay. I get no notice that
the patch is being made, though, presumably since it's already there!
Anyways, there are then two complaints printed something like this:

        kernel-module version mismatch
                /usr/lib/mol/modules/mol.o for 2.2.17pre10-ben1
                vs. 2.2.14-1.3.0bpmac

        kernel-module version mismatch
                /usr/lib/mol/modules/sheep_net.o for 2.2.17pre10-ben1
                vs. 2.2.14-1.3.0bpmac

(I couldn't cut and paste the exact text -- these are approximate). Then
things move on to the following:

        version 0.9.50
        Using resource file '/etc/molrc'
        Using MOL library directory '/usr/lib/mol'
        MOL kernel module 1.1.50

Then the powerbook just completely hangs for several minutes. Then the
computer reboots but I'm assuming that's because Linux is being starved of
cpu time.

I appreciate all the advice given to me so far. Any suggestions
on where I should/could go from here?

                                Thanks,

                                        Bob Kehoe
