Recompiling MOL on a 2.4.x system is currently a *good* idea.
The 2.2 MOL binary works in principle on any 2.2 kernel, but the
2.4 binary is a bit more sensitive.

I'm currently working on reducing the number of kernel dependencies.
One of the goals is making it safer to use the prebuilt module
on any 2.4 kernel.
