The default setting in molrc enables both the X video output and output on
a virtual console. So unless he's specifically changed it it wouldn't
disallow switching to fullscreen. There is an option that tells it to just
switch to console immediately on start, and MoL will flip to console if
the video mode that MacOS wants isn't available, but unless console mode
has been outright disabled (which it's not, since he said he ran it from a
console and it came up), then he should be able to switch out to it at any
time.
