signal 15, menu problems, instability

This is actually a continuation of my posted observations about mol's
instability, but I've now been trying to use mol in full-screen mode
and the situation is -much- worse.

Kernel is 2.4.9-bk, and mol is 0.9.61, rsynced on Oct 8. Box is 9500
with Powerlogix G3. MacOS is 8.6. One of the ongoing symptoms since
way before that date and version of kernel and mol is that the mouse
will go into some sort of funny "mouse down" mode. IOW, I can't
select anything with a click, but if I move the mouse over any finder
menu, it will drop down, and the individual items will highlight if I
move the mouse over them, but they cannot be selected. The clock
continues to run, and the Mac volumes can be mounted over the network
via Appletalk and files copied to and fro just fine. Coincident with
this behavior is that the box goes deaf to TCP/IP, although it can be
pinged fine, which I guess is more due to Linux running.

In an attempt to find a solution to this, which can happen from 5 min
to 5 hours to 5 days after starting mol (IOW, at any time), I have
tried going to mol without X (before, I always ran mol in a slow
video window in X). So I dumped that in favor of full-screen mode.
The situation is now -much- worse.

The -first- time I did it, everything was copasetic, but overnight
the deafness and mouse behavior started again. This morning, every
time I have started mol in this fashion, the messages which scroll on
screen include a signal 15 [terminated] and mol -immediately- boots
to the mouse-down behavior (yes it is booting, clock runs, etc,
except once it never finished booting). I have now gone back to X and
the slow-video mode, and I again have it working, but I know it is
only a matter of time before mol craps out again.

I'm trying to use mol 24/7 on this 24/7 Linux box which is otherwise
rock-hard stable. But right now, mol is like a loose cannon.

Any thoughts? I've been marching through the 2.4 series looking for
relief without any. Should I upgrade again to the latest? I also
regularly rsync mol hoping against hope, but...
