At last a question I can answer.

The first PowerPCs were the [678]100, introduced early
in 1994, see

and <URL: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermac/stats/powermac_6100_60.html >. Although it was something of a tour de force to get the then
'new' RSIC architecture out on the 10th anniversary of
the Mac, I think that it is fair to say that the OS
lagged a little, and these early machines came with a
revision of 7.1, to wit 7.1.2, one of the 'fat' systems..

I suspect that he has already done so, but the OP should
peruse LEM, exempli gratia

and find a Mac with a suitable 040 accelerator card
to run System 6. Plenty of people run System 6 - heck
it still works.
