Reversing a Kernel Upgrade (?)

Hi there!

My desktop machine is an iMac running YDL version 2.0. It has given
me excellent service until I foolishly contemplated running the rpm
upgrade to install the alternative kernel 2.4.4. You see I was
looking for increased USB support for a printer and a 'superdrive'.

The rpm upgrade went quite well after I manually setup the xwindow
configuration ... but now it's giving me error messages and refusing
to run kppp. I am off the 'net on that machine! Basically some of
my machine's software will have to be upgraded to work with a 2.4
kernel..

My difficulty is in restoring/downgrading to the 2.2.19 kernel. Is
there a way to acheive this without further damage to my system? I
want to remove the 2.4.4 kernel, re-install the 2.2.19 kernel and
resume my working with the beast. I don't want to lose all my emails
... so a complete re-install is not the way forward.

Thinking about this in the bath the other day I reasoned that if I
remove the 2.4.4 kernel using rpm ... everything will come to a
complete halt. Can I then use the install disk to re-insert the
wanted kernel??

Any suggestions?

Also any suggestions for using the 'superdrive' with 2.2.19?

TIA

Richard
