Airport on YDL 2.2

Well on reboot I had no network services at all. It appears that adding
/sbin/modprobe to /etc/rc.d/rc.local did not work for me perhaps. Is
there another place to add it for start up? It did not seem like my
airport network name and password were saved either. How can I make sure
these are saved? Once I removed the line from etc/rc.d/rc.local and
rebooted I had network services again. Only for ethernet. Went through
the airport how to again with same results not seeing the router in
netstat output. DNS returns names but cannot ping them.
