Hi Nathan,

Check your DPMS settings with:

% xset q
...
DPMS (Energy Star):
  Standby: 1200    Suspend: 1800    Off: 2400
  DPMS is Enabled
  Monitor is On
...

Check the xset man page for full details.  For example, you can force
your monitor off with "xset dpms force off".
