Modem Troubles

Alright, I've tried Ars Technica... now I'll get to the people who use 
the actual software.

I have an iMac DV/400 that I recently installed YDL onto. Just one 
problem... I can connect to the Internet just fine, but I can't do 
ANYTHING but ping the IP I'm connected to. It's probably a problem with 
the DNS server I put in, but... it might not be. My modem is at 
/dev/ttyS0, and I use Earthlink. Has anyone run into this problem 
before? Thanks in advance for the help!
