YDL partition corrupted - partition up now, but still no login

Thanks Nathan, I got the partition back with fsck. But the graphical 
login still doesn't work, as described before, forcing me to do a hard 
restart.

Is there any way I can switch it to text login? Maybe remotly? I didn't 
play with ssh since the installation, was it on by default?
If I ever log in again, how do I change to a text login?
