hi-
a few open questions regarding power saving, myths about hardware
problems, and linux.

1. what sort of powersaving options does one have with YDL and or
linux in general?
i am aware of hdparm and pmud, but is there anything else for drive
sleep, monitor sleep, and or system sleep?

2. it has always been my practice to setup my mahcines with
powersaving in mind- disk spinning down after x minutes of
inactivity, monitor sleep after x minutes, system sleep after x
minutes. i have never run into any problems with drives or monitors
dying- and this is on a cross-section or various macs and pcs from
1989 until now. besides the rumors or drive failure due to putting
the heads to rest, are there any reasons not to impliment power
saving? and are these rumors valid?

any input would be appreciated -
thanks in advance,
dylan
