I just rescued a PM5400 and here are the specs:
120mhz 603e processor
80mb RAM
256 L2 Cache Installed
Apple 4x CD Drive
Quantum Firball 10.2gb Hard Drive (just installed)
Using Apple's drive setup I created (3) partitions:
1) 8gb for LINUX
2) .5gb for OS9
3) 1gb for HFS Data
I burned a good working copy of the 2.3 YDL ISO Image. I installed BootX
and restarted the machine. I boot up into LINUX and it goes to the
installer for YDL (no problems).
I get to the Partitioning section and I create to partitions:
Dev/hda7 - 256mb SWAP
Dev/hda8 - 8.1gb LINUX Partition
I save the partition setup and it proceeds to the formatting portion. I can
see the scroll bar for progress and it succeeds in formatting the dev/hda7
(swap). There is even a little "red" portion on the progress bar.
It the continues on to format dev/hda8 (LINUX partition), the 8.1gb. And
that is all she wrote.
There is no error messages, no progress marks, nothing. I let it run for 45
minutes and nothing. I reset everything and I am at the hang point again as
I type. I plan on running some errors for about 2 hours but I don't have
any expectations that it is actually progressing.
Any thoughts on this guys & gals?
BTW: Last night I tried doing an install on the same machine with Debian
3.0 (woody) and I had problems at the partitioning as well. Unless they are
using the same partition/format utility, this leads me to believe I have
goofed in setting up the partitions but I don't see how.
Thanks,
Los
P.S. On the Partition map:
Dev/hda1-6 seem to be for HFS drivers and such
Dev/hda9 is the .5gb MAC OS9 HFS
Dev/hda10 is the 1gb MAC HFS (data drive)
This is how I got dev/hda7, 8 for LINUX...
