Error while initializing the sound driver

I just installed Yellow Dog Linux (YDL) 2.3
on a 667 MHz Apple Titanium PowerBook G4 laptop computer
(PowerBook Titanium III)
and finally got [failsafe] X to start up
but, as KDE is initializing after I login, I get

	Sound Saver informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device

I sometimes get this message from YDL 2.2 on an older
500 MHz Apple Titanium PowerBook G4 laptop computer.
