Downgrading to php 4.06

Hi. Due to problems with php 4.12, I've decided to downgrade to the
4.06 version that I had good luck with at ftp.froese.org. Currently,
I am running YDL 2.2, full installation.

I tried to install the Froese package just to see what the
dependencies issues would be; it read out:

error: failed dependencies:
libcrypto.so.1   is needed by php-4.0.6-4
libdb-3.1.so   is needed by php-4.0.6-4
liblber.so.1   is needed by php-4.0.6-4
libldap.so.1   is needed by php-4.0.6-4
libsablot.so.0   is needed by php-4.0.6-4
libssl.so.1   is needed by php-4.0.6-4
php = 4.1.2-1a is needed by php-mysql-4.1.2-1a
php = 4.1.2-1a is needed by php-imap-4.1.2-1a
php = 4.1.2-1a is needed by php-odbc-4.1.2-1a
php = 4.1.2-1a is needed by php-pgsql-4.1.2-1a
php = 4.1.2-1a is needed by php-ldap-4.1.2-1a

I'm not sure where all of these packages are from , although I
recognize some as from openssl. But I know that I have openssl
installed. Apparently it's looking for a different version of these
files.

I fear that this is going to lead to a downward spiral of downgrades.
I'm thinking there must be a better way. I usually try to avoid
compiling myself (because I don't know what I'm doing) but I suspect
that this is the solution. True? If I embark on this, is there any
obvious forseeable problems with compiling php 4.0.6 (the source from
the froese.org site) on YDL 2.2? What do I do; make, then make
install?

TIA

Rob
