Downgrading to php 4.06

Am I to understand then that the instructions below include mod_php 
for the new version, or is that not version specific?  Do I have to 
uninstall my current versions before doing this?

Thanks for your detailed instructions, BTW.  I'm less skittish about 
compiling my own stuff the more I do it.  Doing a full YDL install 
eliminated many of the frustrations I'd had before.

How does compiling my own affect the package manager?
