B&W G3 can't boot YDL2.2

I do know that you *can* boot without using the motherboard IDE 
busses.  I've done it before with SCSI cards.

What kind of IDE card is it again?  It needs to have an Open Firmware 
driver in its ROM to be bootable on New World PowerMacs like the B&W.
