Remote X11 Connections

So is there some way of checking to see if X11 on the server is listening?

Well, it's definitely not the same login as before, but this one does 
not have the System options you say there should be.  There is still 
a dog, on a blue background on the desktop, but there is no dog in 
the dialog as there was before.
