I also have scsi activated on the iMac, as I wanted to play with a usb
floppy drive (afaik they need scsi support), but of course no scsi low-level
drivers. The 2940 series is pretty stable and well tested in the ix86 world,
so I don't suspect an error there.
The hang might occur during periods of high load, which can be done easily
on the '233 iMac, but it's much more difficult on the G4. However, dumping
data to a tape with software compression creates a rather high load. Seems
to be something for the kernel gurus; it's really annoying to see the iMac
behaving like a winbloze box: "you moved the mouse, please reboot..." :-//
