Hmmm, do you have more information about the chip used there? Sometimes it's 
possible to get infos from the manufacturer, and this might help. Actually, 
I did not do much kernel programming yet (just a few modules), though I 
would be interested in trying to fix this...

An other interesting point is that my girl friend (it's actually her 
machine...) says that she did not have problems with 2.2 kernels. So maybe 
it's worth downgrading, as neither the imation drive nor the canon scanner 
(one reason to move to 2.4) seem to be supported by 2.4.20.
