Old mac serial and Palm

I am trying to get my Palm VII to Sync to my Beige G3.  I don't have any 
USB, so my only option seems to be MAC serial.  I got an old min-DIN8 to DB 
9 adapter (originally used to sync palms in the Mac OS).

I am trying to use KPilot on YDL 3.0, with stock kernel, but I am not sure 
what /dev/* to use.

I have tried /dev/ttyS0, /dev/ttyS1, /dev/cua0, /dev/cua1, but none of them 
even seem to give a flicker of recognition.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
