12/2 G5 install disks -- kernel panic on boot

Ian,
   I've got almost the same config that you do and I just finished re-loading
YDL on it from the last ISO's.
   Try booting into Open Firmware and doing a 'reset-nvram' before rebooting
from the CD's.  I haven't tried the 'install' option, only the 
'install-safe'.  The
resettingn of nvram has pretty much fixed my boot panics....
