Ok.

Two VERY important points.

Did you booted from your Apple Hardware Diagnostic CD?
DO IT.
Say what happens.

Then,
Did you booted with OS X in verbose mode? (command + option + v)
DO IT.
Then, say the errors.

OS X is very, VERY, sensible, about hardware problems that other systems
(OS 9, Linux) may ignore or "workaround" (ok, no apple hardware need
"workarounds" for OS X like x86 computers need with every system, except
if hardware is evidently broken).
