Jon,

Are you sure that the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1 file 
doesn't have a line:

KEY="s:"

The redhat-config-network tool added that to my file, I had to go back 
in and remove it after.  (Certainly a bug.)

Sounds like you're almost there!
