I am very interseted in this issue since I also have a iBook g3 800 with YDL 3.0.1.
A friend of mine, also an owner of a iBook, got it working as mentioned in > http://bulma.net/impresion.phtml?nIdNoticia=1634 - but he is using Debian.
I also got the X.org "X" compiled (also with some oddities) but I am not sure if I should try to install it yet.
Could you send me your X.org configuration files?

PS: By the way - use yum to install pacages instead of apt.
