YDL4: ALSA configuration

In previous versions of YDL I knew what to do:

* download and build the ALSA code
  [drivers(kernel modules), libraries, utilities]

* edit /etc/modules.conf

        alias sound-slot-0 dmasound_pmac
        alias sound-slot-1 dmasound_pmac
        alias sound-service-0-0 dmasound_pmac
        alias sound-service-0-3 dmasound_pmac
        alias sound-service-1-0 dmasound_pmac
        #
        # ALSA portion
        alias char-major-116 snd
        #
        # OSS/Free portion
        alias char-major-14 soundcore

* reboot

* use 'lsmod' to make sure sound drivers loaded as expected

* remember to turn up the sound...

The linux-2.6.x kernel source now includes ALSA driver support. YDL4
ships with the appropriate[maybe???] drivers(kernel modules), libraries
and utilities:

        alsa-lib-1.0.3a-2
        alsa-lib-devel-1.0.3a-2
        alsa-utils-1.0.3-1i

Configuration directives that used to reside in /etc/modules.conf appear
to have migrated over to /etc/modprobe.conf.

I have tried a number of different modifications to /etc/modprobe.conf
without success, which is why I have posted the question to the list.
Hopefully, someone at Terrasoft will show us the way.
