As a matter of fact, yes, although not immediatly.

I'm listening to Blur right now, playing through KsCD :-)

Here's what I had to do to get things working:
- Change dmasound_pmac into snd_powermac (or snd-powermac according to
Owen Stampflee ?) in /etc/modprobe.conf.
- In the KDE Control panel, choose ALSA as the sound device.
- Open KMix, make sure Mic Boost is way open. On my system, Mic Boost is
a slider with only three positions. If it's in the lower position, I
have no sound output at all. In the middle position, I have soft sound,
I can finetune with the other sliders. In the top position I have full
sound, fully controllable by the other sliders. Interesting no ? The
input slider determines whether output is generated. Oh well, once you
know it, it only makes sense ;-).
- Then in KMix I use the Headphone slider, and the Amp Master slider to
set my volume to the desired loudness. I have external speakers attached
to the phone out. In case you want to use the internal speakers, you can
use the PC Speaker slider together with the Amp Master. In my case, I
simply disable PC Speaker, because it interferes with the external speakers.
- Still in KMix, under the Switches tab, I have to make sure the Mic
switch is enabled, or I don't have sound ! As I said, input controls
output, it's only logical :-)

That's it. Although, I also just killed artsd in the process of trying
to make CD's work, but I'm not sure if that's needed. I would first try
leaving artsd as is and see what happens.

Also note that with the upgrade to 4.0 KDE decided my language should be
dutch (although my 3.0 installation was English), so I'm not sure if I
translated all names in KMix correctly.

Good luck,

Geert Jan

(Damn, they do have some great songs, Blur ;-) )
