Help with L2 G3 Newertech upgrade?

The Newertech card only allows adjustment of the backside cache 
multiplier...No bus speed adjustments are allowed on my 6400 with the 
PowerLogix G3/G4 software.  I am not sure if we are proceeding on the 
right track here.  It is quite frustrating...The last L2 card that I had 
was the Vimage and it worked NP under YDL 2.3 as it did a soft boot to 
enable the G3 processor....I guess from tehre on in YDL saw it as a 
G3....So it did the soft boot, and then went to BootX.  The Newer relies 
on the extension to enable it, but there is no soft boot.  Set G3 cache 
is not available under BootX either.  Grab G3 cache setting does not 
work either claiming that there is no G3 installed.  I think that is 
meant for teh PCI based upgrades.

<sigh>I just wanted to run Linux...and a nice server.  The 6400 is a 
dead end...No X, no Linux...

Any other ideas?
