ATA DVD burners on my server

DVD burners are getting cheap, and I'm thinking they may be a good backup
solution for my server.  I'm running YDL 2.2 on a Beige G3 Mac Tower.

Will this work?  Any special problems with an ATA/IDE drive on this hardware? 
Are there drivers available for YDL?  More particularly, is this a good backup
medium?  Reliable?  What about backup software?  Can I do multiple backup
sessions on a single DVD-R disk or do I have to dedicate a single disk to each
session even if there's only 100 mb of data?
