Article on IceWM

Not to get in the middle of things ;), but I did check out the IceWM
link (and ice-wm) and came away with two impressions --
1) The article (or something else related) made the point that a
window-manager needs to be invisible. I agree. Once we have to think
about the OS or window-manager, we begin wasting time. The closest I get
to that experience is on Mac OS X, when everything is being nice.
2) Ice-wm is not intuitive enough for us point-and-clickers. As soon as
I started IceWM, I wanted to make changes in how it looks. I know the
configuration is held in a few short text files, but I would have
appreciated clicking on a button and then changing the appearance and
behavior.
Now, another question: is it just the heat, or am I crazy to consider
using Mac OS 9.2.x for my work system? Mac OS X has all of the pretty
bells-and-whistles, but is a bit top-heavy. I run 'top' after logging in
and see nearly 300MB of RAM has already been taken. On the other hand,
Linux is modern, but I'm forever fiddling with one setting or another
just to keep things afloat -- a little like the guy I used to see on 'Ed
Sullivan' trying to keep several spinning plates from crashing to the
floor.
