how to bring up non-X console windows?

Hey there,

Just got YDL installed on my old PowerMac 6100 and it seems to be 
running, besides for what seems like a display calibration issue.  I 
see everything in "triples" (or more) and there are a bunch of 
horizontal lines running across the screen.

I suppose I need to bring up a console window so I can fool around to 
begin to diagnose it.  Problem is, its an old keyboard, and I don't 
know what the key combo is to bring up a console window.  I have apple, 
option, shift, and control buttons if that helps.  Anyone know the 
correct key combo?

And- can anyone help me out in configuring the display settings so that 
my 12'' monitor will work correctly?
