You've correctly identified the problem:

    "I receive errors from mplayer saying that libdvdcss can't decrypt the key."

Turns out you need a license to legally play DVD's in the US.  And as
such, we also can't tell you how to do it here.  

There is a lot of information out there concerning linux, dvd css, and
licensing.  It might be in your interest to continue your research.
