It sounds like you have already got some good problem solving
skills, so you will be on your way soon. Here's some stuff you
might already know. Since YDL is rpm-based (rpm=Red Hat
Package Manager), the easiest way to install (but not the only
way) is to use rpm, either command line or through one of the
graphical front ends. The basic install command is "rpm -i" and
then the package file name (ends with .ppc.rpm for ydl packages).
"man rpm" is the rpm manual page command.
If you want to make life easier, and you are using kde, use kpackage
(find it in the K->System folder). In there, you can configure the
location for rpms (under Settings->Configure Kpackage). Enter
an ftp location for ydl, and refresh, and you will get a list of rpms
not yet installed under the New tab). You can mark & install
from there, it does everything for you. As a bonus, you can put
an update ftp location for ydl in there as well, and you'll see any
updated packages in the Updated tab.
