Tools to instal extra packages?

Hi,

I managed to install on an oldworld 6400.  It seems you need
to do "custom" install, because "default" does not initialise
the disks properly.

I still run in text mode.
What I would like to do now is adding packages like X windows,
KDE.  I think there is some tool available that was used to install
the system, but do not know the name of it.  I already found
Xconfigurator, which gives me such windows like the installer
did.

I do not find linuxconf either, is there a tool that does the same
thing?
