no sound from audio CD

Hi All

I'm a brand new newbie :). I've installed YDL2.3 as per instructions and I'd
like to play audio CDs. When I put a CD in the player starts, but no sound.
I've followed the instructions with regard to XMMS and the output plug-in,
but no joy.

I've got a PB G3/400 Pismo.

Any ideas?
