Disks not mounted

Hey I have a 4400 set up as a dual boot and I cannot access my disks as 
they do not appear to be mounted.  They work in OS 8.6 but not YDL 2.3. 
  The reason I need to fix this is because I need to use a boot disk 
(tomsrtbt) to fix my lost root password.  I need to then configure my 
internet settings so I can connect to the internet.  So if anyone could 
help me figure out how to get my disks mounted and how to startup onto 
tomsrtbt I would really appreciate it.  P.S. CDs work fine in Linux and 
Mac OS 8.6
