3com 940 Gigabit Eth Hangs in PowerMac G4

Hi, just want to know if anyone has come across a
similar problem, and the fix for it.  I installed
YellowDog 3.0 on a PowerMac G4.  Built the 3c2000
driver but hard hangs when it is loaded, with the
following message:

   Machine check in kernel mode
   Caused by (from SRR1=41030): Transfer error ack
signal

The same thing happens with the sk98lin driver.
