I have YDL 3.0 running on a 6500/250 box. From the manual it states
that oldworld boxes require BootX to run YDL. So you will still need
to install Mac OS 7.5-9.X BUT you will need the maximum memory. You
can get it cheaply at

P/N DNFP/064/F5V4K $13.00

I like running YDL3.0 on my oldworld mac, because I can. It'll only
be fun though if you upgrade the memory and the video card.
Otherwise it'll run way too slow and you'll just be disappointed.

Good luck!!

If you're interested in learning Linux, I suggest you get an old PC
and learn to do installs on that. I just picked up an old PC 500MhZ
at a garage sale for 15 bucks, 15" monitor and all. Learn all the
different flavors of linux.
