CD-ROM Driver

Another update to my situation:

In desperation last night I tried putting the linux kernels from the YDL 2.1
disk on my system and booting from one of those. This seemed to get me past
the point where it was hanging (the uniform driver was version 3.0 I think)
but the screen was all fuzzy and messed up.

If I start again and install YDL 2.1 can I still install all the goodies
that are on the extra CDs of YDL 3?
