Xwindow quits during install

OK, I've tried for three or four days to figure this out, but I'm at a
loss. I have a 9600 with an XLR8 G3 (333 @ 400), 512 RAM, Radeon 7000,
stock 4 gig SCSI drive and 12X CD. I also have a Farallon Mac 10/100
ethernet card and a SIIG USB 1.1 card. The USB and etheret cards are
in slots one and two (respectively) and the Radeon is in the sixth, if
it matters.

Run BootX from 9.1. YDL 3 goes into the installer. I start the
process, BUT when I get to partitioning the harddrive, XWindow will
suddenly quit, unmount the filesystem and tell me it is safe to reboot.
It does this whether I use select Auto Partition, DiskDruid or fdisk.
Now, I installed YDL 2.3 on this machine with no problems, so it seems
a little odd that YDL 3.0 is not working.... besides just annoying.

I tried installing in text mode, but when it asks me how I want to
install it, the keyboard (stock ADB) stops working and I have to
reboot. HMMMMM...

I don't think it is a bad disc or burn, because it doesn't hang... it
just decides to quit.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...
