mounting a USB memory stick

When I read your answer I thought "Of course, that's it!". So (not to have=
=20
side effects) I shut down the system and did a reboot. Then opening a=20
terminal switched to root and typed:

# mount -t vfat /dev/sda /mnt/usb

The terminal answered:

mount: /dev/sda ist kein g=FCltiges blockorientiertes Ger=E4t

("mount: /dev/sda is no valid block orientated device")

Of course. -- I forgot to plug in the memory stick. :-/

Done that, I retried:

# mount -t vfat /dev/sda /mnt/usb

But still nothing changed: the terminal froze, and nothing happend.
