Axis 1440 print server

I have been trying to get my Epson Stylus Photo 750 printer, which is 
connected to an Axis 1440 print server, working with YDL 3.0.  I have 
tried the Red Hat printer utility and CUPS.  When I set it up as an 
LPD/LPR host and try to print a test page Linux reports a failure to 
connect to the printer.  Works with MOL, though, and with my OS X 
machine.  Can anyone point me to a good Linux HOWTO?
