Gerald,

Unless the Asante FriendlyNet is a router and has the ability for one 
port to be in an entirely different subnet from another, your problem is 
that the printer's address needs to be set to something in the 
192.168.1.X subnet, like maybe 192.168.1.10. This will allow your Mac to 
see it on the network. After changing the LW's net address to this, you 
can open a shell on your mac and ping 192.168.1.10. You should get a 
response indicating that it is reaching the printer. If so, put that 
address into CUPS and you should be printing within seconds.
