Hmm, I just 'bravely' tried it on my system without a floppy disk (or a
floppy drive for that matter) and it did what I would expect it to do.
"Can't open /dev/fd0: No such device\nCannot initialize 'A:'"

Did you have a floppy disk in the drive when you typed, err mistyped it?
