errm... I've tried probing all the modes - at one time or another (although
I don't remember MOL using /etc/fb.modes until this latest version).

misc.modes, etc. etc. all give the same effect (to varying degrees)...
I'll look to see what I can do: trouble is finding any doc. with valid
modelines - the ati stuff is under NDA (unless this has changed really
recently).

The modelines in the XF3/4 releases seem to be in a different format from
those in /usr/lib/mol/vmodes/ (otherwise I could just copy the working
modeline from my XF86config-4).

do you mean build the kernel with serial as a module and then just take it
out of /lib/modules/2.4.x ?

(I'm currently using BK 2.4.7-pre8 BTW - but regularly re-build as I try to
track the latest kernel for the sound stuff...)
