On some powerpc systems, you may need to select "CD-Audio" on the MacOS
side. (MacOS seems to do this dynamically). On the control strip in MacOS
(8.5 and greater) select the Sound Control (A picture of a CD and a
Microphone) and select CD Audio.

This may relieve the problem. (At least it did on my powerbook :) )

Did you try adding 'alias sound dmasound' to /etc/conf.modules?

xmms-cdread (xmms being the Linux equivalent of WinAmp). It's towards the
bottom of http://www.xmms.org/plugins_input.html

You only need this if you have newer Apple hardware (which lacks the cdrom
drive -> motherboard sound cable). If that is not the case, use a mixer like
kmix to ensure that your volume levels are appropriate.
